Cinema Studies Courses
Cinema 21 is host to Oregon State University's film studies courses. Two courses begin in January 2020.
The New Hollywood: Revolution is American Cinema, 1967-1974 is a survey of American filmmaking beginning in the late 1960s after thirty years of strict enforcement of the Motion Picture Production Code was triumphantly smashed. This 10 week course looks at Hollywood when, at long last, it began to embrace images and ideas that had formerly been considered strictly unacceptable and off-limits. January 11-March 14, 2020.
In many compelling ways, America in the 21st century bears a remarkable and uncomfortable resemblance to the America of the 1930's: a polarized political climate rife with economic disparity, a legal system riddled with corruption, ethnic targeting and other immigration worries–all topics that resonate with an eerie similarity to the travails of today's uncertain world. Hollywood in the Thirties: Window on America explores these social issues with 10 films from the 1930s. January 14-Marcy 17, 2020.
